Carey Mulligan discovered her passion for acting at an early age. While attending Woldingham School, she became a student head of drama and performed in productions like “Sweet Charity.” In 2004, Carey Mulligan appeared in the Royal Court Theatre production of “Forty Winks.” Her luck came when she met casting agent Julian Fellowes, who helped her bag a role for the 2005 movie adaptation of Jane Austen novel’s “Pride & Prejudice.”
Also in 2005, Carey Mulligan starred in the BAFTA award-winning adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel “Bleak House.” For her portrayal of one of the orphans named Ada Clare on ‘Bleak House,’ Mulligan received a nomination for “Best Supporting Actress in a motion picture or miniseries” at the Online Film & Television Association Televion awards. That same year, she appeared in the Almeida Theatre production of “The Hypochondriac.” In 2006, Carey Mulligan was seen on several TV programs, including “The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard” and “The Sittaford Mystery.”
In 2007, Carey Mulligan landed several TV-movies, such as “Northanger Abbey” as Isabella Thorpe and “Trial & Retribution X: Sins of the Father” as Emily Harrogate. That same year, she guest-starred in the TV shows “Waking the Dead” and “Doctor Who.” Carey Mulligan also appeared in the 2007 movie adaptation of Blake Morrison’s “And When Did You Last See Your Father?,” the 2007 revival of “The Seagull” and the all-star cast TV-movie “My Boy Jack.” Aside from films and TV shows, Carrey also appeared on the BBC Radio 4 shows “Life Class” and “Arcadia.”
Carey Mulligan made her Broadway debut in the 2008 U.S. production of “The Seagull,” where her performance as Nina led to a Drama Desk Award nomination. In 2009, Carey Mulligan appeared in the movie “The Greatest.” She then made a critically-acclaimed performance as Jenny Miller in the movie “An Education,” which led to a ‘Breakthrough Performance’ Award from the Hollywood Film Festival and a ‘Shooting Stars’ Award from the Berlin International Film Festival. Carey Mulligan then appeared in the Johnny Depp movie “Public Enemies,” followed by “Brothers” alongside Hollywood big names like Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
In 2010, Carey Mulligan is set to appear on the movies “Never Let Me Go,” “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,” “The Electric Slide,” and the big screen adaptation of “Seagull.” She will also be seen in the 2010 West End revival of Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya.”
